After the Mayor welcomed the Grant of Arms home to its rightful place, MP Andrew Gwynne officiated the gathering. He explained the Arms were granted to Audenshaw in the 1950's by King George VI.

The Arms depict the pick and axe together with the rose which is symbolic with Austin Hopkinson`s company "Pick Rose" Delta Works on Delta Road in Audenshaw. The black star represents his revolutionary coal cutting machine nicknamed the "Black Star" which he invented. Ryecroft Hall was also his home during his terms in office as a local MP.
